Oh man… I just adore this little girl! This was the 3rd time she had came to see me. She’s always smiley, Mom has the greatest wardrobe for her, Grandma usually comes along and I think she’s great… we always have a lot of fun together. :)  Happy 1st birthday Charlie!

Mom expressed interest in the pasta pot shot I’ve done in the past but since Charlie was a little older compared to the age I usually fit babies into my pot (about 6 or 7 months), I made what my husband calls a “gametime decision” as I was shopping for supplies that morning and went with a pancake-themed shot instead. Isn’t this cute?

I am going to bombard you with Smash pictures because I just love the way these turned out!

Charlie’s storyboard. Super-lovin’ the way this one turned out! I love the different shades of pink.

Happy day you YOU!

These cute little brothers came for some cake weeks ago. We left the session off of my Blog so their pictures could be a surprise at their party but I think it’s about time you see just how cute they are!

Meet Christopher…

…and Dylan

They weren’t 100% taken with their cake but I think they enjoyed themselves a good amount. As long as we don’t have 30 minutes of straight tears, I’m happy.

Two cakes are more fun than one!

Dylan and Christopher’s storyboard:

I love taking these collages an turning them into thank you cards! These have been quite popular lately. Look for more samples on my Facebook page soon! (I try to give ample time after our session before sharing since I don’t want to ruin the thank you surprise for your party guests. They really print up beautifully. Ask me about them!)

Happy Monday!

Sean was such a super-cutie and I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to share his pictures! Before I get to him though, I would love to tell you about a fun little promo I am offering. Pinks and blues are very popular for cake smashes and while I love how each session looks, I am antsy to use some new colors! I am happy to report that I have added a lovely, rich violet along with a pretty leafy green to my stash of seamless papers. Check ‘em out:

Like them? If you have a smash booked with me in the upcoming weeks and choose to use one of these colors, I will throw in $20 worth of prints with your package! You can’t pass that up. :) Make sure to e-mail me to take advantage of this special offer. I will leave it on the table until I get one or two takers with each color. Please note that the free prints are not being offered with any other colors at this time.

Did you have a portrait session with me in 2012 or one coming up in the next few weeks? I am going to be offering another very special promo that everyone can take advantage of. :) It will be the perfect Mother’s Day treat to yourself. Stay tuned!

And now, here is happy little Sean covered in cake. Yum!

Have a sweet day!

Justin had a Sesame Street-themed 1st birthday and his Mom had lots of great ideas. She requested the brick backdrop, the Sesame-colored balloons and said she was going to bring along a bunch of Sesame character dolls. I love, love, love the way the shot turned out with the characters surrounding Justin. Like the sign? I made it in Photoshop and added it during editing. I love the way it pulled the whole theme together.

Soon it was time for cake, something Justin was not interested in. I still think his Cake Smash photos turned out cute thanks in part to an adorable outfit. Plus you may remember a bit of Photoshopping I did on one of these shots. ;)

I hope you had a great birthday party Justin!

Have a great weekend everyone! xo!

Brynn is a beautiful little girl who came over for her Cake Smash this past weekend. Her birthday outfits were the cutest! The Smash one was so big and puffy – totally girly and fun. :)

Thanks again for allowing me to capture your princess on her 1st birthday Mom & Dad!

Happy Birthday Brynn!

I put together some Cake Smash info and wanted to share that here. But first, a fun before and after.

Some kids love their Smash. L-O-V-E it. Some hate it. And many others fall in between. They are interested for a bit and then either A) get bored or B) get grossed out at the frosting glued to their hands (And face. And belly. And feet. Etc.) If your child cries during his Cake Smash, please don’t feel bad. I get lots of moms and dads who feel bad because their kid is not enjoying the birthday cake thing. It’s common for some kids to get a little weird about it. I always pull out all of the stops when it comes to getting some smiles. I offer a spoon. I tell them to throw the cake or beat it like a drum. One of my kids might be home to help dance stuffed animals on my head or play peek-a-boo from behind my umbrella. We sing. Mom dances. I play videos on my iPad for them. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. All I really need is one great smile to complete a series of ten photos for you. But sometimes, the smile just doesn’t happen. I think any and all messy cake shots are cute to be honest so the set of pictures still turns out really nice.

Justin came over recently for a whole first birthday session (scroll here until you get to the balloons). He smiled and I got some wonderful shots of him with his balloons and Sesame Street dolls. But he was not interested in his birthday cake. At all. And if I am just working with that series of photos, there’s not much I can do. But since I had taken some happy shots with the balloons prior to the cake, I knew I had a few things to work with. And so I played around in Photoshop last night until I turned the lefthand photo into the right one and if I didn’t show you the side-by-side here today, no one would even know the difference. ;)

Oh that makes me happy! :)  I love that I am able to give one messy, big-grinned picture to his Mommy. :)

DISCLAIMER: Clients, please note that a headswap is not always possible. I need to be able to seamlessly patch on the smile and sometimes if baby’s head is tilted even a fraction of an inch the other way, it won’t look right. I do not swap heads (boy that sounds weird!) at a client’s request. I do so only if I am able and at my own artistic discretion.

If you have a Cake Smash booked with me or are thinking about booking one, I have put together some handy info for you. I got a little carried away with the rainbow colored text. ;)

Drew’s session took place a few weeks ago but I knew I had to Blog a few of these shots. He wasn’t overly crazy about his cake but we got some winning photos nonetheless. There may have been a happy head swap on one of these photos. I will never tell. ;)

Nicole, thanks again for bringing your little cutie over!

Check back later today for a FAQ post on my Cake Smashes and a really neat before & after peek (yes, involving cake!)

Have a sweet day!

Can you stand another cake smash? What can I say: it seems to be the ‘in’ thing to turn one lately ~ and even better if you come here for some pictures and birthday cake! (I will have a newborn session to Blog later this week).

This is Connor, a ridiculously cute little guy who photographed beautifully. Can you even stand the overalls, giant tie AND party hat? I think these shots are adorable!

I love this shot. I can’t be the only one who likes to caption kid photos and imagine what they are saying… right? Here, I think Connor is seeing just how far he can get with this whole cake smash business.

“So now I’m just going to put some cake in my ears since you guys aren’t cleaning me up anyway…”

I’m sorry. Even if these clients are not my own children or related to me in any way, I sometimes want to bite their faces. I admit it.

Thanks again for coming over Connor, Mom, Dad and Aunt Amy!

Last week I had a first ever: a TWIN cake smash! It was a lot of fun and kicks-off a series of three twin smashes I have scheduled in the next few weeks.

These boys are gorgeous! At first I had trouble telling them apart (I just remembered Nico had the blue cake, Anthony the green) but as I edited them, I realized they definitely had different features and their own little faces. They really were too sweet. They sat behind their cakes and did not move during the entire shoot. When one brother didn’t think the other was looking, he would try to swipe some cake from him. ;)

Thanks again for bringing these little cuties over Nicole. Enjoy your peek!

Bennett is such a handsome little man. Just look at all of that hair! He was my second of two smashes last week. I am tellin’ ya, I have the silliest, best job ever! Mom and Dad aren’t Facebookers so you haven’t seen a peek of Bennett yet. They did want them shared here though and I couldn’t wait to Blog them and show off this cutie. Look at that rockin’ hawk!

Mariel, thanks so much for our session! It might have been the quickest shoot ever but I think we got some pretty great shots. : )

“Hmm… I think I like it…”

Tomorrow, a twin smash. Can’t wait!
